The CW has released a promo for the midseason premiere of The Flash which will air January 16, 2018.

Spoilers for tonight's midseason finale, "Don't Run," below.

After tonight's shocking midseason finale, Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) finds himself explaining that he's not the Fastest Man Alive, but is instead an innocent man. Tonight, The Thinker's evil plan was revealed and part of that plan involved framing Barry for the supposed murder of Clifford DeVoe. You can check out the promo above.

In the promo, Barry is on trial for DeVoe's murder, but it doesn't look like things are going well for Barry. Cecile, who is defending him, suggests that he use the truth as his defense -- reveal his identity as The Flash. It's a suggestion that might well save Barry from prison, but doesn't sit well with the speedster. As he says, revealing his metahuman identity will only make it to where he and Iris can never stop running.

With Barry going on trial for DeVoe's presumed murder, it appears that The Flash is bringing a classic storyline from the comics to life. In the comic book storyline 'The Trial of the Flash,' Barry is also tried for murder, though in the comic book story it's not The Thinker, but another Flash villain -- Professor Zoom -- who Barry is accused of killing. In comics, Barry ends up convicted of that murder. Fans of the CW show are no doubt hoping that part of the story ends up different on The Flash, too.

The Flash is now on winter hiatus. New episodes will resume on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 8/7c on The CW.
