During the production of Suicide Squad, much was made of how close the cast were. They hung out! They loved their director! They got tattoos together!

...Well, yeah. About that last one.

During a new interview, franchise star Joel Kinnaman admits to regretting the tattoo he got from co-star Will Smith.

"That was a horrible idea," Kinnaman admitted on Watch What Happens Live. "Don't let a 47-year-old man without his reading glasses tattoo you. That is a life lesson….It's supposed to be a shitty tattoo, so that's what it is."

In August of 2015, Kinnaman posted a photo of his tattoo -- which says "SKWAD" on his left bicep -- to Instagram along with the caption, "Will [Smith] has many many talents, tattooing is not one of them. It was like watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter."

The "Skwad" tattoos -- intentionally misspelled -- were a common thing on the set. A photo shared to social media pictured Margot Robbie applying one to a production worker while in full Harley Quinn regalia. At South By Southwest ahead of the release of Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. Pictures set up a pop-up Suicide Squad tattoo parlor where fans could get the logos of their favorite villains committed to their flesh for free.

Kinnaman is currently starring in Altered Carbon, a dystopian sci-fi series on Netflix which also features (among others) Riverdale actress Hayley Law.

During interviews in support of the new series, the actor has acknowledged that Suicide Squad was not 100% the movie they set out to make, but that he has confidence the sequel can draw from the first movie's strengths and move forward.

Suicide Squad 2 will be directed by Gavin O'Connor (The Accountant), while David Ayer (Bright), who handled the first movie, is working on a spinoff that will put the spotlight more firmly on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

The first film was critically pilloried but made enough money at the box office that not only was a second a fait accompli, but director David Ayer is reportedly working on a spinoff featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad 2 is reportedly going to begin production this fall. Along with Kinnaman, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are all returning.
