'Legends of Tomorrow' Star Says Season 3 Feels Like "A New Show"

Legends of Tomorrow's third season will take the show in a very new direction, according to one of the show's stars.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who plays Amaya Jiwe/Vixen in The CW's hit series, recently teased the upcoming season in an interview with Bleeding Cool. As she explained, Legends is constantly in the process of reinventing itself, something that will definitely be true with its newest chapter.

"It feels so fresh, almost like a new show." Richardson-Sellers revealed. "The same way season two felt like a new show from season one. I'm excited to see how that translates to the screen."

So what in particular will give the show that fresh feeling? Richardson-Sellers cited the show's unique blend of historical fiction and zany DC Comics-inspired adventures.

"We go to some really fun time periods," Richardson-Sellers explained, "and see some really cool historical figures and characters from folklore and world renown from our history. And we've got a team of new supervillain that are really exciting. The playful edginess gets amplified, it's fun and silly but there are also some very emotional moments."

What we know about Legends' third season certainly seems to echo that. In the first few episodes of the season, the series will head to the carnival world of PT Barnum, cross paths with Julius Caesar, and reference E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. But the series will also dive into the dark past of Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh), address Sara Lance/White Canary's (Caity Lotz) guilt, and possibly create a rift between Firestorm duo Jax Jackson (Franz Drameh) and Martin Stein (Victor Garber).

Richardson-Sellers also mentioned the addition of Zari Adrianna (Tala Ashe), the morally-grey hacktivist who will be reluctantly joining the team early on in the season.

"Having Zari join the team as a superhero from the future," Richardson-Sellers pointed out, "adds a new fresh spin on everything."

Legends of Tomorrow returns to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.

Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau's authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau's capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.
