It's been over 50 years since Burt Ward suited up at Robin on the 1960s Batman series. The beloved show still stands as one of the most iconic superhero adaptations in history, and the actor isn't shy when it comes to talking about about his role. The actor recently took time to speak with ComicBook.com's own Chris Killian about his tenure as Batman's sidekick and even said who he'd like to see play Robin in a solo film.

During an interview on 'Goodnight Gotham,' Ward spoke frankly about his desire to see Robin hit the big screen again. When asked if there were any young actors he'd like to see take on the role, Ward answered with a confident yes.

"Absolutely," he said. "Me!"

The actor continued, saying, "Let me tell you something. You remember when Star Trek ended, and Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner got all those star trek movies? They were very successful, and those guys were older."

"You didn't care that they were older. You loved them," Ward explained. Of course, he's not wrong. Many of those Trekkies had grown up with Nimoy and Shatner, a fact that helped them overlook the actors' aging visages and embrace their characters for what they were.

Ward hopes he might get the chance to put back on Robin's tights one day much like how Shatner donned his infamous gold Starfleet uniform. "Could you imagine Adam and I now fifty years later going to put on our tights?" he asked.

Chris Killian also asked the actor what he thought about Robin's lack of live-action appearances. The sidekick has been notably absent from recent Batman blockbusters. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the boy wonder was presumed dead after a run-in with The Joker. The Dark Knight trilogy also overlooked the sidekick though a last-minute scene did reveal that Joseph Gordon Levitt was Robin.

Speaking about Robin's on-screen future, Ward explained that the folks at Warner Bros. are professionals and "know exactly what they are doing."

"I'm sure somethings coming in the future. When you've got it working so well as it is, you kind of bring it out slowly - you don't jump for dessert before you have your main entree."

As for Ward, the actor said his time as Robin has been a life-long affair. "It never really leaves you," he said. The actor's iteration of Robin still stands as one of the character's most recognizable. The actor credits his work's longevity to the fans. When Batman first aired, Ward said the show drew in all kinds of fans from kids to adults to college students.
