An otherwise ho-hum afternoon for Florida mom Kayla McAllister took a harrowing turn after her 11 year-old son found some drugs in his used copy of Grand Theft Auto V. McAllister and her son had purchased the game from their local GameStop in Tallahassee and, as the game was installing, the youngster found a strange baggie in the instruction book. It was meth.

Thankfully Kayla's son brought the bag to her immediately and, upon inspection, she had a pretty clear idea of what was inside. Horrified and furious, she took to Facebook to post about her discovery:

"Today i took my son to gamestop in Tallahassee to trade in games and get some new ones. When he opened the booklet inside one of the pre owned games he ( MY ELEVEN YEAR OLD SON!!!!!!!) found this. A baggie of fucking meth! Clearly the game was not properly checked when it was traded in and because of the carelessness i could have lost a child. Thankfully He brought it right to us and said what is this?"

Naturally, the police got involved. Deputy Larry Smith showed up to Kayla's house to procure the mystery bag and get it tested. His file reports: "At the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office the white substance was field tested by Deputy Dallas Richardson and witness by Deputy Kevin Faircloth with a return of purple and blue. These colors are positive for narcotic (Methamphetamine). The Zip lock bag weight was 6 grams without packaging. "

Kayla noted that the GameStop from which the game was purchased offered to send her a replacement which, if you ask us, is a pretty anemic apology. She stated firmly (and with a few cuss words) that she'd never be doing business with them again. GameStop, for its part, did release a statement to Kotaku after they reached out for comment:

"We are disappointed to hear about the experience one of our customers recently had when purchasing a pre-owned video game from one of our local Tallahassee, Florida stores. We work diligently to ensure the quality of our pre-owned items are like new. Unfortunately, in this circumstance our thorough process fell short. We are extremely concerned that this incident occurred, and are working with the local police department to support them in their investigation."

The bottom line? Make sure you check all of your pre-owned games -- especially if you have kids.
