Pirates Of The Caribbean Gets New, Free Mobile Game

Drink up me harties, yo ho! It's time to set sail with the Pirates of the Caribbean, this time on the mobile front.

Disney, in partnership with Korean game developer JOYCITY, has announced the release of a new iOS and Android-based mobile title called Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War. Based on the hit movie franchise, the game features characters, ships and storylines from the full series of films.

"In the game, players become pirates in the world of Pirates of the Caribbean and will enjoy a full sea fight experience on their mobile devices. As they plan various strategies through building and ship construction and troops training, players can form an alliance to battle against each other or defeat common monsters that dwell in the sea! Players will also encounter familiar characters from "Pirates of the Caribbean," including Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa and Will Turner," the company noted in a press release.

"'Pirates of the Caribbean' is one of the most popular movie franchises in history and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War' will immerse fans directly into the action like never before," said Hanseo Jo, COO, JOYCITY. "With the fifth installment of the franchise, 'Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' coming out soon, this new game will allow players to engage further with the world of Captain Jack Sparrow and the other iconic characters in new ways."

The game's release couldn't be better times, as the next film in the top grossing film series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, will make its way to release later this month, featuring Johnny Depp returning as Jack Sparrow, as well as returning favorites Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom. Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men) joins the cast as a new villain, who will no doubt pop up somewhere in Tides of War (though that's not confirmed yet).

It's set up as a free-to-play title, meaning that it will have a few Microtransactions, but nothing that should get in the way of the game action. So set sail and see how these turbulent waters suit your piracy needs!
