Destiny 2 is still months away, but apparently, Bungie's new MMO is further along than you might think. Fans can look forward to their first glimpse of Destiny 2 in-game footage this week, but the folks at Bungie are already playing a full version of the game from their couches at home.

Bungie recently dropped their first podcast in nearly three years, which features Destiny 2 director Luke Smith and project manager Mark Noseworthy chatting about the process of making the game. The includes the revelation that Destiny 2 is basically done, albeit in a rough state.

"We have the game at home, which is awesome. We have the whole game at home. On a private test realm. And we're playing the s**t out of the game. That actually becomes pretty motivating to get back to work, because you can see, so clearly, inspiration n things that are going amazingly. And you can also see so many opportunities."

That said, it isn't all fun and games at Bungie. It sounds like they still have some challenging work ahead…

"We're not done. We've got plenty of work in front of us. But having a version of the game where you can sit on your couch in front of your TV, it feels totally different than playing at your desk. it's a birth, basically. Destiny 2 the baby is going to be born either way. It's coming. And so, we're just going to get to a place where we have to push. It's going to happen no matter what."

It's good to hear Destiny 2 is already so far along. That means the last few months of development can mostly be dedicated to polish and fixing bugs. Hopefully, Destiny 2 will avoid the launch issues so many online games suffer from these days.

Destiny 2 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 8. First Destiny 2 gameplay footage will be revealed via livestream this Thursday (May 18).
