Ubisoft just revealed Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle to the world, and it's dropping on Nintendo Switch on August 29. We knew this was coming, but no one could have predicted just how weird and wonderful it really is. During today's E3 conference we got our first look at the game and, well, just take a look for yourself and enjoy the trailer above.

Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot was joined on stage during the Ubisoft conference by the legendary Nintendo creative fellow Shigeru Miyamoto, and the two shared an adorable moment holding replicas of the weapons used in Kingdom Battle. Just look at this:

"Get a first look at all the chaos of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and join Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi as they team up with Rabbids heroes to explore a new world twisted by the mischievous Rabbids, filled with secrets and nods to classic Mario games! Discover a feel-good and modern combat adventure designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, playable anywhere, anytime, with anyone."

As revealed in our previous report, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will star Ubisoft's charismatic and delightfully insane Rabbids as well as Nintendo's star crew: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi. Taking a hard right and deviating from Mario's more typical platforming adventures, Kingdom Battle will be a strategy RPG that has all eight characters leveling up, investing in skill trees, and blasting baddies.

During the presentation there were a few gameplay loops and features shown off. What we saw was a beautiful mix of exploration and turn based strategic combat, similar in some ways to most modern SRPGs, and in other ways radically different. Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Luigi, and the Rabbids will be able to navigate the battle field freely, utilizing areas of movement and action instead of boxes or squares. Players will be able to perform special jumping maneuvers off of members of their party in order to reach far areas, and will utilize a variety of special skills, abilities, and their environment, to defeat foes.

The story is going to be surreal (and likely hilarious), and our sources indicated a single-player campaign lasting about 20 hours long. Since this is a Nintendo Switch game, you better believe that two-player co-op will be a big focus, so you'll want to have your strangest friend on-call when the game drops on August 29.
