The team-up that started it all is coming back! The 3DS got short shrift during the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 presentation, but the company announced some new portable goodness during their Nintendo Treehouse livestream, including Metroid: Samus Returns and a remake of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga!

Here's what The Big N has to say about Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions:

"In this renewed classic, Mario and Luigi journey to the Beanbean Kingdom with Bowser to restore Princess Peach's voice. Control Mario and Luigi simultaneously, making use of their unique Bros. Moves to solve puzzles and emerge victorious in action-packed battles. Recruit characters to grow your own Minion army as you fight to locate your missing leader!"

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga has had its visuals completely revamped so they measure up to more recent entries in the series like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Paper Jam. As the game's new name implies, it also includes the new Bowser's Minions mode, in which you recruit an army of classic baddies to save Bowser. You can check out a Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions trailer at the top of the page, and a nice chunk of Treehouse Live gameplay, below.

Mario's starred in a lot of RPGs over the years, and everybody has their favorites, but for my money Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is the best of the bunch. First appearing on the Game Boy Advance in 2003, Superstar Saga featured lovely 2D art and a great story that poked fun at Mario and Nintendo tropes. Most people associate the Paper Mario series with that kind of meta, tongue-in-cheek humor, but Mario & Luigi did it first.

The existence Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions was discovered last month, when dataminers found 3DS icons and an eShop listing for the game. Of course, Nintendo never comments or responds to such sneakiness, so we had to wait until E3 for confirmation.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (man, that title is a chore) marches on 3DS on October 6.
