Shortly before this year's E3, former Crysis developer Crytek teased an interesting new multiplayer game called Hunt: Showdown. According to Crytek, the game was a "PvP monster hunter," although they didn't provide any additional detail about what exactly that meant.

Well, Crytek have now released a video walkthrough of their E3 2017 demo for Hunt: Showdown, and, thankfully, the game looks very promising. Here's how Crytek describes the demo:

Hunt: Showdown Creative Director Magnus Larbrant and Level Design Director Chris Auty hunt down a monstrous spider in a dark Louisiana swamp. With four other teams of two after the same bounty and many more monsters lurking in the shadows, they must use a combination of stealth maneuvering and violent confrontation to reach their goal and get out with the bounty—and their lives.

Though matches can last anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes, this gameplay footage consolidates one round into a tense eight-minute experience, capturing the atmosphere, drama, and arc of the gameplay players will experience when Hunt: Showdown launches for PC.

Hunt: Showdown looks like it could stand on its own as a straight-ahead, traditional horror game – the graphics, sound effects, and monster design is all top-notch -- but the addition of other human hunters adds a whole extra dimension. Who's more dangerous? The mindless monstrosities or your scheming fellow hunters? It looks like it will be a hard call.

Hunt: Showdown began life as Hunt: Horrors of the Golden Age, a third-person co-op shooter by former Darksiders devs, in which you hunted famous 19th century monsters. Crytek claims this new version of Hunt is a complete rethink of the concept, by a new team.

Hunt: Showdown is expected to hit PC sometime in 2018.
