Bandai Namco has been full of announcements at this year's Anime Expo, and one of their recent reveals gave a look into the gameplay of their previously announced anime-styled game called Code Vein.

The gameplay trailer that was released doesn't differ a great deal from what was shown during E3, but it does offer a look at a new environment in the game. Pale, eerie-looking enemies tower over the vampiric protagonist with some gruesome weapons that players have to dodge and roll around. It opens up into a cave-like area illuminated by torches and the red eyes of the enemies, but it later transitions into a destroyed building towards the later half of the trailer.

While most players who are fans of the Souls series are likely tired of having the acclaimed series' fighting style attributed to other games, Code Vein's combat that's been featured in the trailer certainly does look like something out of the Souls universe. A fast-moving sword and a slower but heavier-hitting halberd weapon are shown in the trailer as the player takes on the foes, each apparently with their own trade-offs. Navigating around the enemies while dodging their attacks, which one could assume do quite a bit of damage, this game certainly does look quite a bit like something out of the Souls universe. The HUD was absent in the trailer, so it's unclear what kind of health, mana and stamina system the game might have once it's released.

Players can create their own character at the start of Code Vein as they embark on a story-driven experience while draining the enemies' energies in order to further your own powers. A partner can also be chosen to follow your character around through a buddy system to assist you in your battles.

Along with Code Vein, Bandai Namco has also been announcing and releasing content for more games during the Anime Expo. One such game was The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia, a game based on the popular anime series that's set to be released in early 2018.

For now, Code Vein doesn't yet have an exact release date. The game is expected to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
