George Takei Helped Develop a Mobile Game Based on Kubo and the Two Strings, and It's Finally Out

George Takei is now in the video game business. The actor, director, and activist joined Hollywood game studio Fifth Journey as its Creative Director, and his first project with the company is a mobile game called Kubo: A Samurai Quest, which is based off of the the Academy Award-nominated movie Kubo and the Two Strings. You can download the game right now on Android or iOS, where it has enjoyed a limited release since August.

Takei himself was involved in the film, playing the character Hosato, and so he came to work on this game from a place very close to the original creative vision that made the film such a hit. "Kubo is the story of a young samurai's magical quest to save his family," he remarked in a press release. "It's a beautifully crafted film and I'm thrilled to be working with Fifth Journey on the game."

Takei performed (and is performing) a number of creative tasks throughout the development of Kubo: A Samurai Quest. He stars in the the puzzle RPG directly, reprising his role as Hosato, and he also helped Fifth Journey as the studio endeavored to create additional, brand new characters and brand new storylines for the game. Of course, he'll also be doing his fair share of promotion on social media, where he enjoys considerable influence.
