We love Ed Boon. The guy not only leads the team at NetherRealm Studios in making great fighting games like Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat, but whenever he sends out a cryptic tweet, it can mean pretty much anything.
For instance, right before San Diego Comic-Con, he noted something about possibly adding on to Injustice 2’s Story Mode, though we didn’t hear anything back since. Still, the sheer speculation has sent the fighting game community into a frenzy, wondering what could be coming next for the fighting game. And, yep, we just got yet another tease.
Earlier this evening, Boon sent out an image of what appears to be some kind of yellow armor, as you can see in the tweet below. He didn’t note anything but a face looking up, so, for all we know, it’s not a confirmation of anything. Still, we did some digging anyway.
The image points to a particular character from Mortal Kombat fame – Cyrax. This robotic assassin was first introduced in Mortal Kombat 3 years ago, and has since become a fan favorite with his arsenal of devastating moves. That said, the image indicates that we could possibly see his return.
Now, keep in mind that this is just speculation, but take a look at the screenshot we located of Cyrax. If you take a look at the armor, you can see that it’s a pretty close match, although we really don’t get to see the whole thing. But check out the wiring, the yellow and black shading…that could very well be Cyrax.
It actually wouldn’t surprise us if this same shot was taken from the character armor featured in the otherwise forgettable Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, as you can see from the image below. It does get a little dirtier, but it’s an almost exact color match.
As expected, Boon didn’t say anything else, so all this is just speculation. However, he did note at San Diego Comic-Con a week ago that the team at NetherRealm was preparing an announcement for the second DLC for Injustice 2, and he could very well be hinting that Cyrax could be a part of this pack. After all, he’d make quite a servant to Brainiac.
We’ll let you know once anything’s confirmed, but, yes, we may be getting some lethal laser webbing soon enough…
