Splatoon 2 Gets A Gooey Honest Trailer

It's Tuesday, which means the team at Smosh Games are back for another merciless butchering of a popular video game, just as they've done in the past with Injustice 2 and Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy. This time, they're ganging up on the Nintendo sequel Splatoon 2 for its latest Honest Game Trailer, which you can see above.

At the start of the trailer, the team talks about how closely Nintendo followed the formula of the original game, but made note that most people probably won't care, since it's on a more accessible system this time around and not the Wii U. Oh, and they call it a "paint ejaculation simulator", if you can accept that.

They call the shooter "less Call of Duty, and more Tony Hawk Grafitti mode." They also make note that the game does away with murder when it comes to its shooter tactics, but still may have parents wondering what they mean when kids say "they've been splatting their friends."

From there, mentions are made about shopping, the Splatoon dancing mini-games, and dank memes, which appear throughout the game in a Miiverse style set-up. (The narrator even suggests that Miiverse was done away with to make room for this.)

The game is then compared to Mario Galaxy-style levels "Again!" by platforming through different levels in a void. It's pretty cool, though, as they break down everything from taking on weird octopus bosses ("Did I just fight a giant toaster oven? But…why?") to collecting fish eggs.

Multiplayer gets a big focus as well, though the narrator makes it clear that it's all about Turf War (or the "most adorable race war") and the modes that aren't as fun as Turf War. There is a new experience – Salmon Run – that works like a Horde Mode, but also plays the lead characters like monsters as they attempt to stop enemies from taking "back their…eggs?" "Are we salmon traffickers?!" And they totally poke at the awful chat system too, so don't worry about that.

It's good fun, but make sure you watch it through to the end to get all the laughs you can out of it. "I just wanted a fresh shirt."
