Pokemon Go Might Hold Off on Releasing Additional Legendary Pokemon

An updated file in Pokemon Go could point to the future of the game's Legendary Pokemon.

An update to the game's GAME_MASTER file (which contains stats and other vital information for all Pokemon) has removed the base capture rates for Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Suicune, Raikou, and Entei. Zapdos's base capture rate remains at 3%.

The changes could mean that Pokemon Go is planning to hold off on the release of additional Legendary Pokemon after August 14th, which is when Zapdos is scheduled to leave the game. If a Pokemon has a base capture rate of 0%, it means that the Pokemon cannot be caught within the game.

Changing the base capture rate also throws a damper on speculation that Pokemon Go will release Ho-Oh at a Japanese "Pokemon Go Stadium" event on August 14th.

The game previously updated the base capture rates of all Legendary Pokemon to 2%, and then adjusted the capture rates for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres to 3% after revealing that each Pokemon would only be available for one week.

Of course, a change to the GAME_MASTER file doesn't necessarily mean that there will be a delay in the rollout of additional Legendary Pokemon. Pokemon Go previously updated the base capture rates for all the Legendary Pokemon the morning that Lugia and Articuno were released, so it's not as if they can't easily add back base capture rates to the game.

While we can only speculate on the reasons why, it's clear that Pokemon Go is tinkering with its Legendary Pokemon. We'll have to wait and find out if any more changes are made in the coming days.
