Magikarp is one of the most common Pokemon in Pokemon Go, but players still seek them out in the hopes of capturing one of its Shiny variants. Pokemon Go introduced Shiny Magikarp several months ago, but many players have yet to catch one because of its extreme rarity.

Recently, some misinformation has spread over whether players could get a Shiny Magikarp from hatching a 2 KM egg. Magikarp was removed from Pokemon Go's egg pools months ago, but a popular YouTuber named "Reversal" recently posted that Shiny Magikarp could be hatched from eggs.

So, can players catch Shiny Magikarp in Pokemon Go? Well, no....except in certain situations. Pokemon Go added special 2 KM eggs at the Yokohama Outbreak Festival earlier in August, which did contain Shiny Magikarp. However, the game has not added Magikarp back into the regular Egg Pool, so players can't hatch them under normal circumstances.

While "Reversal" was wrong about the Magikarp, players can hatch Shiny Pichu from 2 KM eggs. Shiny Pichu are extremely rare, in part because they can only be obtained by hatching a 2 KM egg.

Shiny Magikarp, along with Shiny Pikachu, can still be caught in the wild in Pokemon Go. Currently, Magikarp and Pikachu (along with their respective pre-evolved and evolved forms) are the only Shiny Pokemon available in Pokemon Go, although dataminers have discovered Shiny Legendary Pokemon assets within Pokemon Go's code.

Players should keep hatching 2 KM eggs for the easy XP, Stardust and Candies, but they won't get any Shiny Magikarp from eggs.
