When Sega said it was considering bringing back many of its franchises for a new audience to enjoy, we had no idea what the company had in mind. But it appears that the picture is getting a little bit clearer.
Hot on the heels of the news that Bayonetta and Vanquish could be seeing a twin pack later this year, some European listings have begun to appear for what could be a welcome surprise for many fans – a Shenmue 1 & 2 HD pack.
It wouldn’t be a complete shock, if only because a lot of hype has gone into the forthcoming Shenmue III, especially with the signing of Deep Silver as a retail partner for the game – instead of the usual team at Sega. So of course, the company may capitalize on its success by giving us remasters of the games that started it all.
The games don’t have a release date yet, but it has a listing of 2017, indicating that it could come later this year. There’s been a $49.99 price point passed around, but nothing has been finalized just yet.
Sega hasn’t confirmed this release just yet, but the Tokyo Game Show is just around the corner, and it could very well announce not only the Shenmue pack for a release later this year, but also the aforementioned Bayonetta and Vanquish twin pack, both of which would help boost the company’s profits over the holiday season, alongside the previously confirmed Sonic Forces. We’ll just have to wait a few more weeks to see what it reveals later this month, but we’ll let you know once official word comes down the line.
Personally, we’d be down for a return to the Shenmue games. What we wouldn’t give for a few more rounds of Space Harrier and racing around on forklifts. (Oh, and finding our father’s murderer, I guess…)
You can check out the Shenmue games on Dreamcast, as well as Shenmue II on Xbox. Shenmue III will release sometime in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
