A Dreamcast Compilation Book Is On KickStarter, And It Looks Awesome

While Sega may not have put much faith in the console during its short time on the market, the Dreamcast held a special place in many gamers' hearts, and continues to be a favorite to most of the retro community out there. And now, if a particular author can raise the proper funds for it, we'll be getting a book that pays tribute to the console.

Darren Wall has listed a new project on KickStarter with the name Sega Dreamcast: Collected Works, and the creators hope to raise just over $89,000 to get it made. So far, the program is a pretty good success, with over $47,000 raised, with 29 days to go.

"SEGA Dreamcast: Collected Works is the definitive history of the cult games console, produced in collaboration with SEGA. This large format, deluxe hardback will feature a dazzling collection of never-before-published materials and specially commissioned editorial, offering unprecedented insight into the creation of the Dreamcast console and its celebrated library of games," the product's description reads.

"This high end publication, created with the full support of SEGA itself, will document the creation of the console and its most iconic games – from pop hits such as Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure to arcane curiosities like Space Channel 5 and Segagaga."

"SEGA Dreamcast: Collected Works, if funded, will be the authoritative resource on SEGA's last console: exhaustively researched, beautifully designed, and manufactured to the highest standards – an essential volume for any videogame aficionado."

The team had previously worked on the acclaimed 2014 release, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works, so it's certainly been down this road before. Alongside Sega's support, the book will also feature interviews with a number of producers and other talents, including Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez, Space Channel 5) and Yuji Naka (Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Online, Chu Chu Rocket).

There's still time for you to get a book of your very own, even though it's not set to be published until November 2018. Still, for anyone that grew up with and/or loves the Sega Dreamcast, this looks like a not-miss publication.
