A lot of heart and soul went into developing the unique – and tough as nails – run and gun adventure Cuphead, as you can easily see from our review. But it's a gamble that appears to be paying off for the developers at Studio MDHR, as the game has already proven to be a hit seller on the Steam front.

A pair of sources have indicated that the game has become a hit seller in a short amount of time. Steamspy recently reported that the game has managed to clear 125,000 units sold in its first four days – not too shabby for an indie release at all. On top of that, Valve had a say in its progress as well, noting that it was one of the best-selling games on the service last week.

That said, Microsoft hasn't provided a note as to how many copies the game sold on Xbox One and Windows 10 just yet, but it might be gauging the numbers for some kind of reveal later this month, so we should have that information soon.

In the meantime, it's easy to see why the game is such a hit. Along with our glowing review, Cuphead has garnered an amazing amount of user reviews over on Steam, and also has impressive Metacritic scores, with the PC version sitting around 90 and the Xbox One version just a little bit lower at 86. So obviously, it's becoming a big fan favorite in just a short amount of time.

But it's not a game for everyone. Cuphead is built around immense difficulty. Even if you take on the bosses on the "Simple" setting, you'll find your work cut out for you as they throw a number of challenges your way. And keep in mind that you can't finish the game unless you collect the contracts on "Regular," thus reaching the finale – and then you have to beat the final boss to get past that point.

But a lot of people love the game, and that's the point – it's bound to be a big hit amongst the indie community this holiday season. And how!

Cuphead is available now for Xbox One, Windows PC and Steam.
