The "First Win of the Day" bonus that League of Legends players receive for being victorious once every day is being tweaked to include a small amount of Blue Essence with the tradeoff of slightly less XP.

In the current version of the FWotD bonus, winning will net you a sizeable chunk of XP to further yourself in the new leveling system. Getting more XP and moving up faster is essential now since that's the only way that you're able to receive Blue Essence, at least until this latest change to the system ships.

You still won't be receiving massive amounts of Blue Essence with every bonus, but the new plan that was outlined by Riot Meddler should help players feel a bit better when working towards their Blue Essence purchases.

"Our plan here is to convert some of the XP from the First Win of the Day boost into straight up blue essence," Riot Meddler explained. "At system launch, FWotD granted 575 XP. When we ship this change (aiming for sometime during patch 7.23) it'll instead grant 50 BE and 400 XP."

The change to the FWotD bonus comes as a response to some players finding it frustrating that they're just barely out of reach when trying to purchase their next champion. If you don't have quite enough Blue Essence to purchase your champ, you'll have to wait until your next level up to receive another unlocked chest and disenchant that champion shard, something that can take more than a couple of games depending on what level you are.

While 50 Blue Essence might not seem like a large incentive, the fact that it's earnable daily and not tacked onto every level as an additional 50 Blue Essence upon leveling up will make the rewards add up over the course of a couple of days. If you're able to win once a day for a week, you'll have yourself a few hundred extra Blue Essence to work with, something that'll help you bridge the gap to buying a new champion before your next level.

Medder followed the FWotD changes by sharing graphs about what your XP and Blue Essence gains will look like with each level, so check them out if you're interested in seeing some neatly organized data.
