PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had a big showing at E3 already, and the battle royale game recently added to their news by announcing that they had plans to incorporate an upcoming player-controlled zombie mode into the game.

Announced by developer and publisher Bluehole Studio via the game’s Twitter account, the team behind the game that had crazy success while still in Steam’s early access said that they’d be adding the new mode to the game soon, though they weren’t able to give too much in the way of specifics. They did include a brief video with the announcement though to give an idea of what these zombies would look like in the game mode.

The developers have been hosting custom matches of the new zombie mode during E3 to give players some hands-on experience and provide feedback while showing off some of the new animations they have planned for the zombies.

But if you’re more a fan of the base game and don’t want zombies creeping into your gameplay and altering the formula that they have now, you won’t have to worry too much. Plenty of players have grown to love the game for what it is now, so to accommodate that, the developers have said that they’re planning on adding this game mode as a new way to play, not to be merged into the base game. They also said that the progress on the zombies PvP mode won’t be interfering with the support of the base game and that they’d be continuing to focus on optimization and improvements.

Along with the news of the new game mode, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will also be getting an update soon that will incorporate several new elements into the game including vaulting, climbing, and weather effects. Their biggest announcement during E3 was that the game would be releasing on the Xbox One systems sometime during this fall and the PlayStation 4 at a later date.

The PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds zombie mode doesn’t yet have a release date, but more information is expected to come soon as development progresses.
