Since Garmadon's defeat, Ninjago has returned to normal, with the Ninja having returned to living at the Monastery of ...read more Since Garmadon's defeat, Ninjago has returned to normal, with the Ninja having returned to living at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, rebuilt with a new wall full of paintings depicting all their past adventures, until being gifted a rebuilt Destiny's Bounty from the people of Ninjago. However, while Jay struggles with asking Nya a very important question, Lloyd is still concerned about his father's warnings and visits him at his cell, where Garmadon reveals that the dark forces he warned Lloyd about are indeed the Oni and now it's already too late to stop them from attacking Ninjago. Garmadon's words soon become true when a wounded Faith and the Firstbourne Dragon arrive in Ninjago to warn the Ninja about the imminent arrival of the "Bringers of Doom". A mysterious dark cloud emerges from the Realm Crystal at Borg Industries and, despite the Ninja's best efforts, quickly takes over the entire Ninjago City, turning everyone into frozen statues. Realizing that they are no match for this new enemy, Lloyd reluctantly decides to release Garmadon from his cell, as he might be the only one who knows how to defeat the Oni. show less
With Garmadon now on their side, the Ninja prepare to venture into the dark cloud and destroy the Realm Crystal because, ...read more With Garmadon now on their side, the Ninja prepare to venture into the dark cloud and destroy the Realm Crystal because, according to Garmadon, it is the only way to stop the Oni. However, all the Ninja have trusting issues after Garmadon nearly causes them to crash, and attacks them to regain his power. Since only a Oni can survive the contact with the dark cloud, Garmadon volunteers to go alone and destroy the Crystal, but since he can't be trusted, Lloyd decides to go with him, as he does also have Oni blood inside him. While Lloyd and Garmadon make their way to Borg Tower, where they encounter and defeat some Oni, the other Ninja receive a distress signal from the News Building and go to investigate, leaving P.I.X.A.L. behind in case of any emergency from Lloyd and Garmadon. The two eventually find the Realm Crystal, but just as they are about to destroy it, Lloyd and Garmadon are confronted by The Omega, the leader of the Oni, who easily overpowers them both and causes them to lose contact with the other Ninja. show less

They are quickly cornered inside the vault, but they find the Golden Armor which scares the Oni away long enough for them to escape from Borg Tower. Lloyd and Garmadon then contact P.I.X.A.L. who rescues them just in time, but struggles returning with them to Destiny's Bounty as she is almost out of fuel. Meanwhile, the other Ninja arrive at the News Building and rescue everyone trapped there before the dark cloud can reach them. However, just as they are about to escape from the Oni, Nya accidentally reverses the ship's engines, causing Cole to fall into the dark cloud and seemingly die. P.I.X.A.L. arrives with Lloyd and Garmadon on the Destiny's Bounty just in time before running out of fuel and they all mourn Cole's apparent demise, except Garmadon, who refuses to show any emotions as he believes that they make him weak and surviving is the only thing that matters, causing everyone to be angry with him. This prompts Garmadon to look over some old pictures of the Ninja and, while doing so, he begins understanding why they care so much about friendship and family. Meanwhile, Kai tries to convince Nya to stop feeling guilty over Cole's death and she comes with a new plan to stop the Oni: return to the Monastery of Spinjitzu and have Kai use his blacksmith skills to unfuse the Golden Armor into the Golden Weapons, as they might be the only thing strong enough to defeat the Oni. In the final scene, Cole is shown unconscious, but still alive, inside the dark cloud as the darkness slowly approaches him. show less
While Faith recovers from her injuries and reveals Wu and Misako how the darkness took over The First Realm as well, the ninja ...read more While Faith recovers from her injuries and reveals Wu and Misako how the darkness took over The First Realm as well, the ninja return to the Monastery of Spinjitzu and Kai manages to reforge all the Golden Weapons, with the ninja, joined by Wu, Garmadon, and Faith, now preparing for the battle of their lives against the Oni army. Meanwhile, Cole awakens in the middle of the darkness and, upon returning to his Earth Driller, arrives at the Monastery in the middle of the battle and reunites his fellow ninja, who are all happy to have him back. Although the ninja initially have the upper hand, they are soon forced to retreat inside the Monastery and hold the Oni back as long as possible. While Jay finally asks Nya to be his Yang, with her happily accepting, Lloyd realizes that the only way to defeat the Oni is by using Creation itself, meaning that they need to recreate the Tornado of Creation. All the ninja, joined by Wu and eventually Garmadon, who finally accepted his feelings for his family, form the Tornado, which successfully wipes out all the Oni and turns everyone who was frozen back to normal, thus freeing all the realms from the darkness. However, Lloyd passes out during the process and has a vision of The First Spinjitzu Master himself, who thanks him for everything he's done for Ninjago and offers him to come with him, but Lloyd declines, choosing to stay with his friends and keep protecting Ninjago as the Green Ninja. In the aftermath, Garmadon leaves in silence, with only Wu biding him farewell and happy that he finally changed, and the ninja celebrate their victory by adding a new painting on the wall, with several of their allies and citizens of Ninjago watching and cheering. The final scene shows “The End”, as Faith and the Firstbourne Dragon leave to return to their realm. show less
