Thanos Infinity War

With Captain America Civil War right around the corner here in the U.S., the anticipation for the giant crossover Marvel movie couldn't be higher. Civil War though seems to pale in comparison to the number of characters that Marvel seems to have in store for the spiritual finale to their cinematic universe in Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2. 67 characters are promised currently for the epic double feature, and with those slots comes the idea of new folks being introduced into the MCU. Comicbook Fan Patrick Kish believes that one of the new entries into Infinity War could be the organization, S.W.O.R.D. and even supplied some photographic evidence to back his claim! Could S.W.O.R.D. take the spot of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the big wigs on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Infinity War?

To first give you some background on what S.W.O.R.D. is, the organization is the Sentient World Observation and Response Department. Created by none other than Joss Whedon on his comic book run of "Astonishing X-Men", S.W.O.R.D. acts in the same capacity as S.H.I.E.L.D. in a sense but applies it to outer space, protecting earth from extraterrestrial threats. The organization's "Nick Fury" is Abigail Brand, a green haired woman who is part human, and part alien. She's joined by a number of human agents, but also has alien beings on her side to get the job done. While the organization tended to have most of its ties to the X-Men universe, it did spread its wings and affect other parts of the Marvel Universe during its tenure.

With S.H.I.E.L.D. basically out of commission in the movie universe, though still alive and kicking in ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", the Avengers will need some help in combating Thanos when he arrives in Infinity War. Also, considering Starlord has been confirmed to make an appearance, with confirmations by the Guardians of the Galaxy most likely coming down the pike, having S.W.O.R.D. there to help out would make for a nice touch. Brand is a great female character to bring into the MCU as she's strong and capable yet still coming to grips with her past and genetics.

Now, as fan Patrick put it, during the scene of Tony Stark's futuristic vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers were seemingly defeated on a patch of rock in outer space. Next to the team were characters no one had seen before, seemingly wearing uniforms similar to those of agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Instead of their logos, these folks had patches that almost looked like the Washington Monument and a sword overlapping it! Could this be a sign that S.W.O.R.D. has already been confirmed for Infinity War under everyone's noses? Take a closer look at the picture and see for yourself.

Infinity War promises to be the largest film that Marvel has attempted and that's certainly saying something with Civil War incorporating characters like Black Panther and Spider-Man on top of our regular heroes. Regardless of who does appear and who doesn't, it's going to be quite the epic showdown and I hope S.W.O.R.D. is there to share in on the action.
