The Witch's Anya Taylor-Joy Would "Love To Be A Part Of" New Mutants

Back in the Spring, shortly before the theatrical release of X-Men: Apocalypse, rumors started to swirl that the cast of Josh Boone's New Mutants was already starting to take shape.

In May, Boone posted a series of artwork to his Instagram page featuring several members of the potential New Mutants roster. These characters include Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, and Sunspot. Boone followed that up with a group shot of all five characters and finished with an image of the shapeshifting Warlock as an airplane.

Those images synced up with earlier rumors that Maisie Williams, known to most as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, will play the feral Wolfsbane, while Anya Taylor-Joy will be playing fan favorite sister of Colossus Illyana Rasputin, now known as Magik.

Alexandra Shipp, who played Storm in Apocalypse, was also rumored to be returning to play a role in the film. Both Shipp and Williams did interviews right around that time in which they expressed excitement at the prospect of doing New Mutants and other X-Men-related films.

Now, Anya Taylor-Joy has finally commented on the long-simmering rumors, saying that "I think the world is really fascinating. I'd love to be a part of it. It would be wonderful."

Earlier today The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the writing team behind the hit YA adaptations The Fault in Our Stars and The Spectacular Now, are "working on" the film's script, reteaming with The Fault In Our Stars director Boone.

The fact that Boone has been working on one for some time likely indicates that either the studio wanted his version cleaned up, or that he's happy with the big picture now and wanted to call in trusted writers to fine-tune it.

The film is expected to spin out of the long-running X-Men franchise, and is produced by Simon Kinberg, who works on those films and TV projects. It's one of a number of projects aimed at keeping the brand vital for Fox and Marvel in spite of the loss of longtime leading man Hugh Jackman, who recently wrapped production on his final Wolverine film.

The movie is expected to center on a number of largely-unknown X-Men characters. At the same time, the X-Men universe is expanding to television with Legion in the coming season, and of course Deadpool is getting the inevitable sequel after blowing the doors off the February box office earlier this year.
