James Gunn Addresses Baby Groot's Voicing For Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Ever wonder what Baby Groot would sound like? After the character stole the hearts of millions at the end of Guardians of The Galaxy, fans wondered how the sequel would handle his voice.

Baby Groot, as opposed to the full-sized tree, will be appearing in the 2017 sequel. He won't be dancing in a pot anymore, but he will still be small enough to fit atop the shoulder of Rocket Raccoon.

How will that work if Vin Diesel is voicing the character?

It's been confirmed that Diesel is still lending his talents to the film, but his iconic voice is much to deep for the small character. While interacting with fans on Twitter, director James Gunn let fans know that the Diesel-Voice would not be coming from Baby Groot in the sequel.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Gunn let fans know that he was, indeed, working on this solution.

In this tweet, he assures everyone that there is no possible way that the deep voice of Vin Diesel, as it stands now, wouldn't make sense for Baby Groot. His reference to reality, not science fiction, is recognition that movie-making is a business, and you have to take it seriously.

The piece of the tweet that remains more cryptic, however, was the phrase that appeared in the parenthesis at the end of the tweet. "Talking sprout, not talking tree" is definitely a reference to the look of Groot in the film.

Could it be more?

Many times, a child is referred to as a "sprout" of their parents. Is there a chance Gunn and Diesel could be trying out Diesel's son, Vincent, as the smaller version? This would give the character the iconic feel of Groot from the first film, while also providing a much smaller voice for the new iteration.

Either way, Baby Groot will continue to steal our attention when Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 flies into theaters May 5, 2017.
