Happy birthday, Jon Bernthal! The actor turns 40 today.

Born in 1976, Jon was raised in Washtington D.C. by his parents Joan and Eric. The actor pursued his interest in theater as he grew older and was ultimately discovered by the executive director overseeing recruits for the American Repertory Theater. He graduated from the theater in 2002 with a Master of Fine Arts.

Jon is known for both his screen and theater work. Since 2002, the actor has performed in more than thirty stage plays. He began his on-screen career with small television roles on series like Boston Legal, How I Met Your Mother, and more. In 2009, he nabbing a role in Night in the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian before starring in The Pacific.

However, the actor's popularity rocketed after he was cast as Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead. Jon was a regular on the series until 2012. Afterward, he went on to score roles in The Wolf of Wall Street and Fury.

Most recently, fans saw the actor suit up as one of Marvel's most violent character. Jon was cast to play Frank Castle/Punisher on the second season of Daredevil. The actor will reprise the role in his own solo Punisher series. Jon will work with another Marvel alums in the upcoming film Pilgrimage alongside Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Richard Armitage (Captain America: The First Avenger).
