While Doctor Strange might be the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe, he didn't get to that lofty position by himself. In addition to The Ancient One and Karl Mordo, Strange is also the beneficiary of help from Dr. Christine Palmer, and director Scott Derrickson wants fans to know she doesn't need saving.

The director recently responded to a comment on Twitter from user @SeismicSilence that said "1)I'd also like to 👍@scottderrickson et al for a character like Dr.Palmer, a woman with a career who doesn't need to be saved #DoctorStrange." Derrickson echoed those sentiments, saying "Correct, she does the saving."

While Marvel Studios has been able to build up heroes like Black Widow, they've also faltered at times in regards to their female characters, like Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in the Thor films. It seems they are seeking to not make that mistake again with Rachel McAdams, who will be playing Palmer in Doctor Strange.

The superhero universe needs more female characters who don't fall into common tropes, and hopefully, Christine Palmer will be another step in the right direction.

From Marvel Studios comes Doctor Strange, the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long, Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, and Scott Adkins, with Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Scott Derrickson is directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Charles Newirth and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. Jon Spaihts and Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay.

Doctor Strange lands in theaters on November 4.
