Happy birthday, Nicholas Hoult! The actor best known as the furry blue X-Men mutant is celebrating his 27th birthday today.
Among comic book fans, Nicholas Hoult is well known for playing Hank McCoy also known as Beast in the X-Men movies after the timeline was rebooted.
Hoult has appeared as the younger version of Hank McCoy in X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and most recently X-Men: Apocalypse.
When asked about his own character’s development in X-Men: Apocalypse:
“It’s that fine line because I think there’s a sweetness to the character. There’s always those two natures of him whenever you play him. I think Beast is certainly less nonsense, but I think Hank still has a more paternal sweet nature with everyone. But maybe I’ll up the crankiness a little bit. Maybe I just become cranky because I’m in the makeup those days, I don’t know.”
As the X-Men’s genius leader in biochemistry and genetics, Beast transitions from the sidekick character of the previous two movies to a voice of reason among the younger mutants in Apocalypse. Xavier is off preventing another catastrophe, so Hank McCoy becomes a parent figure to the young and scared mutant little kids at the mansion.
Besides his X-Men work, some of Hoult’s other notable roles include playing Marcus Brewer in About A Boy, Tony Stonem in Skins, and Jack in Jack the Giant Slayer. Let's not forget this year's George Miller epic, Mad Max: Fury Road, too!
