Scarlett Johasson is a worldwide A-list movie star - but did you know that she's actually the top-grossing movie star of 2016?

Johasson catapulted to the top of the list for movie stars who brought in serious box office dollars during 2016, thanks to her starring role in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, which was the top grossing film of the year. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. had Civil War to thanks for their spots as number two and three on the list (respectively); however, Johansson's additional role in the Cohen Bros. Hail, Caesar! gave her a slight edge on her male co-stars.

The rest of the list is comprised of a combination of girl power and comic book movie dominance:

• Margot Robbie (no. 4) and Amy Adams (no. 5) round out the top 5 with DC films like Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman giving them big leads, bolstered by secondary projects like Legend of Tarzan and Arrival (respectiely).
• Ryan Reynolds (no. 8) scores another Marvel-based hit with Deadpool
• Felicity Jones scores her first ever spot on the list (no. 9) after starring in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
