Heading into the release of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Marvel fans have been buzzing about the inclusion of the infamous Baby Groot.
The character first appeared at the end of the first film, in the process of growing back to his giant size. In the final scene, the small tree danced in a pot and stole every heart in the audience. The smaller version of the character will be the Groot that stars in Vol. 2, but his size isn't the only change from the original character.
While doing a Q&A on Facebook, a fan asked director James Gunn about the upcoming iteration of Groot. They wondered if Baby Groot would have the memories of his former-self, and how that would affect his relationships.
Gunn responded to the fan, saying that Baby Groot is totally different. The new character will not have any of the memories of the original Groot, thus providing new obstacles for the characters to overcome.
This is definitely a shock, as the relationship between Groot and Rocket was one of the most memorable pieces of the original film. Now, Rocket will have to get close to an all-new Groot, as will the rest of the Guardians.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
