New York streets and buildings sustained major damaged from the Avengers and the invading Chitauri army during the Battle of New York. And while many people looked upon the aftermath with horror, Adrian Toomes (a.k.a. Vulture) saw it as a huge financial opportunity for his salvage company, and by the following day, he had his clean-up crew -- including extra men and extra trucks that he spent money on -- hard at work picking up the debris, the Chitauri remains, and aliens' advanced technology.
However, his moneymaking opportunity goes up in smoke the next day when Damage Control, a government agency, arrives on the scene and gives his company the hike. Money down the drain. But before he and crew depart, he takes some of the Chitauri's tech with him. Later on, with the alien tech he scavenged, Toomes has the Tinkerer (Michael Chernus) build him his own super-suit (and sell advanced-weaponry to criminals), so he can get revenge on Damage Control and make a quick, illegal buck.
So, just how sophisticated is Vulture's winged-suit? "The Vulture suit has a 34-foot wingspan – it’s more like a vehicle than a costume," /Film reports. "He has to step into the suit held on a gantry to get into it. The arms are mechanically controlled (i.e. he doesn’t have to flap the wings to use it). The suit has a cocoon pod extraction which allows him to evacuate and get into more close quarters. He has a sleek fighter pilot-like helmet and mech boots that extend out into claws."
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Marshall-Green, and Marisa Tomei.
The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017.
