Many of the fan favorites from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will be making appearances in the upcoming Defenders series. A new teaser suggests that another big name is returning as well, but is she a friend or foe?
The teaser on the Defenders Twitter account shows the coffin Elektra was contained in at the end of Season 2 of Daredevil. The video holds the caption "Oh, great. #DEFEND", suggesting that she will be in an adversarial role at least at the beginning. Elektra (played by Elodie Yung) was last seen in a ceremonial tomb, currently in possession of The Hand. In the final fight against the hand, Elektra gave her life to keep The Hand from getting Daredevil. After burying her The Hand dug her up and took her, and it seems she will be making a return in Defenders.
It was revealed in season 2 that Elektra is the Black Sky or at least one of. The Black Sky is the weapon that Stick has been fighting to keep from The Hand's possession, and is part of the reason he kept her hidden for so long. Now that she's back amongst the living, it will be interesting to see the toll it takes on her relationship with Matt, and if she is the same person she was when she died. The Defenders' lives just got much more complicated.
Daredevil will next be seen in The Defenders, which will bring phase one of the Netflix Marvel universe to a close, and will likely set up the next big phase of the universe. In addition to the core four shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), the universe will also be adding a Punisher series to its schedule, though no release date has been announced.
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are all available on Netflix now. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17, 2017. The Defenders expected later in the year. The Punisher does not have a release date yet.
