When viewers first saw Danny Rand (Finn Jones) in March's Iron Fist, they saw a character attempting to battle a mystical enemy in The Hand while trying to reassume the life he had previously lived in New York City before a plane crash killed both of his parents.

After killing a dragon — Shou Lao the Undying — Danny picked up the Iron Fist mantle and was to serve as the Immortal Weapon of K'un Lun, a mystical city that appeared on Earth just once every decade. In the series, he left his post as the protector of the city to return to New York City in an attempt to battle the Hand. Upon his return, everyone was treated to a version of the character that came across as rather immature and naïve, having the majority of his childhood taken away from him because of the plane crash.

In a recent panel at Comicpalooza in Houston, Jones said (via MCU Exchange) that by the time The Defenders is over, viewers will be treated to much more mature and developed Danny Rand.

"The thing with there with Danny is that we're taking an ordinary kid with a lot of issues and we're trying to iron those out first before getting to Danny as Iron Fist. And what we'll in Defenders is Danny coming to terms with being a superhero," Jones stated. "In The Defenders when he first starts, he doesn't even know what a superhero is and then he meets those guys and he's like 'WHOA. This is cool,' and by the end of it you kind of see Danny really coming to the grips with his responsibility in a much more mature way."

Marvel's The Defenders is developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
