Netflix may have released its first take on Iron Fist this year, but the site isn’t done with Marvel just yet. The Defenders will make their miniseries debut this August before the Punisher gets his own series afterward. And, according to new reports, another familiar face from Daredevil is set to star in the Punisher’s standalone go.
Recently, rumors began to circulate that Marvel’s Punisher would house another Daredevil character aside from Karen Page. MCU Exchange says it has now confirmed with a “source close to production” that Mitchell Ellison will also be part of the new series. IMDB previously reported actor Geoffrey Cantor would appear in two episodes of Punisher, but it looks like his involvement has now been verified.
If you don’t recall Mitchell from Daredevil, then you should know the man is Karen Page’s boss at the New York Bulletin. Mitchell is the paper’s editor-in-chief, and he was close to Ben Urich before the latter was murdered by Wilson Fisk. Mitchell has since become a close coworker to Karen as the girl asked him to help her co-write an editorial about Frank Castle.
Given Karen’s recent request of Mitchell, fans should not be surprised to hear the character will take part in Punisher. The reporter will be tasked with helping Karen write up her take on Frank Castle, and it is not clear yet whether the bloody vigilante will appreciate the coverage. Mitchell will likely find himself conflicted about the piece as its stakes grow higher, and the editor may even become targeted like Urich was.
Fans have known for some time that Karen would appear in Punisher; A slew of set photos confirmed the heroine’s appearance, but Debra Ann Woll has kept quiet about her role in the series. As for other possible MCU add-ons, it doesn’t look like Claire Temple will try to reason with Frank Castle. Recent reports have suggested Rosario Dawson’s character will not take part in Punisher, so it will be up to Karen and Mitchell to tie the standalone in with Marvel’s biggest universe.
Marvel's The Punisher is being developed by Steve Lightfoot for Netflix. Lightfoot will serve as showrunner. Jon Bernthal will star alongside Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson. Production on the first season of The Punisher commenced in October 2016 and wrapped back in April 2017.
The Punisher is based on the Marvel Comics character created by Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr., and Ross Andru. The character debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974. Originally meant to be a Spider-Man villain, the Punisher's brutality resonated with fans and turned him into a cult classic. The vigilante has since starred in several series including three live-action movies: one starring Dolph Lundgren in 1989, another starring Thomas Jane in 2004, and Punisher: War Zone with Ray Stevenson in 2004
