Doctor Strange Director Calls Zack Snyder's Watchmen "A Masterpiece"

One comic book movie director has a tremendous amount of respect for another's work and he is sharing that opinion on Twitter.

Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson took to the social media platform to defend Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder's first entry into the comic book movie space with Watchmen. When an article opted to use a Watchmen image on a story titled, "What's the worst move you ever saw in the theater?", Derrickson shared an opposite opinion.

"Watchmen is a masterpiece," Derrickson wrote.

The responses largely agreed, with Fox DC's Kevin McCarthy saying, "Agreed. Dylan in the opening credits. Snyder's masterpiece."

Dozens of fans also chimed in to share their opinion of Watchmen, which are in line with Derrickson's perspective. "A masterpiece?" one user responded, "Well, I guess I'm inclined to agree Mr. Derrickson."

Derrickson knows a thing or two about good movies. His Doctor Strange film earned a 90% rating and sits Certified Fresh on RottenTomatoes, with ComicBook.com's users ranking it 14th overall with a 3.96 out of 5. Aside from Strange, Derrickson has received praise for his work on titles including Sinister, a film which the director often recounts earning complete freedom from Blumhouse to helm.

Marvel's Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City's Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

In Snyder's The Watchmen's 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of everyday life. When one of his former comrades is murdered, masked vigilante Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) uncovers a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his retired associates, only one of which has true powers, Rorschach glimpses a far-reaching conspiracy involving their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the world's future.
