The Hulk decided he wanted some time away from home after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron left him questioning his belonging on Earth. In Thor: Ragnarok, he gets more than enough time to himself, and how he ended up on a far away planet has already been revealed.
During a visit to the Australian set of the Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, ComicBook.com heard from production designer Dan Hennah about how the movie begins and where each character is found in its earliest act. As it turns out, the connection between Hulk and Thor won't take long as a similar path leads them to Sakaar.
"Last time we saw Hulk, he was flying away in the Quinjet," Hennah said. "Well, he hit one of those wormholes and he ends up here."
The wormholes in reference can be seen from the Sakaar set which was toured during the set visit in the world of Thor: Ragnarok. They were estimated to be less than two miles from the location according to the film's mythology. After Hulk jetted out of Earth's atmosphere in the Quinjet, which can apparently handle outer space seeing as it will appear in tact in Thor: Ragnarok, the Hulk ventured far enough into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's cosmos to hit a wormhole and be instantly transported the wastelands on Sakaar.
Thor, however, finds himself on a new realm called Muspelheim to start the movie.
To start the film, Odin's son finds himself trapped on Muspelheim while on a journey inspired by the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The concept art for Muspelheim displayed a treacherous, dark location which would be a trying time even for someone with the might of Thor.
"Muspelheim is essentially a Dyson sphere which is an enormous structure around a star," Hennah said. "The premise is this has been here for a long time, and it's coated in the residue of a dying star and it's drawing energy from a dying star. It's populated by demons and dragons and all sorts of creatures. It has internal spaces which are vast."
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 4, 2017. Advanced tickets are available now wherever tickets are sold.
