Thor and Avengers star Chris Hemsworth visited Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk real life military drama 12 Strong, sharing a story about an injury one of his twin sons sustained while Hemsworth was filming Avengers 4.

"This is gonna be a funny story at the end," Hemsworth said, recounting a tale of his son leaping out of a moving golf cart.

"My wife was like, 'What the hell are you doing?' [She] runs over, he's kind of half crying, sulking, but more embarrassed that he didn't stick the landing," Hemsworth explained.

He won't talk, so she comes into work, I'm on set, brings him in, and she's like, 'I gotta take him to the doctor, I think.' I'm like, 'He's fine, he's not even crying.' We get the set nurse to come over, the set nurse has a look, she's like, 'Look, it's not broken, he's fine, but take him anyway.' So my wife takes him off to the doctor, and the doctor's like, 'It can't be broken, I'll give an x-ray.' Gives the x-ray and goes 'Oh my god, it's a really bad fracture through his femur, and it's close to breaking all the way through.' So we have to rush him off to the hospital, put him in a cast, strap him up, and the whole time he's just, as I said, more angry that he didn't land on his feet.

Four weeks later, the boy's cast has been removed — inspiring him to leap off a bench. "Perfect landing," Hemsworth said.

The actor wrapped filming on Avengers 4 last week, bringing an end to his contract with Marvel Studios. "My preexisting contract is done now, so it's kind of like, 'wow, that's it,'" Hemsworth told IGN, adding he desires to stay on as the Asgardian Avenger after the currently untitled Infinity War sequel.

"And after this last experience with Taika [Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok], and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we've reinvented the character a number of times — even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don't get that opportunity often in a franchise," Hemsworth said of Thor, who had become "boring" before his Ragnarok revamp.

"If I had the opportunity to do it again, I think I'd love to," Hemsworth said.

Hemsworth next appears in Avengers: Infinity War, out May 4. Its sequel opens May 3, 2019.
