Marvel Studios has teased Thanos a few times thus far, but the one seen in Avengers: Infinity War is going to look a bit different.
There's a very specific reason for that, and it is intertwined with his mission to hunt down the stones. Director Joe Russo revealed to IGN the reasoning for the change in costume, which foregoes the heavy armor look for something a bit more regal.

Those who happened to be at Comic-Con this year witnessed the first footage from the film, including an epic sequence that shows Thanos destroying a planet with the Gauntlet. Russo says that is just the tip of the iceberg.
"It's a staggering level of scale in the films. Sometimes we're working on the third act in this movie and I'm like, 'How are we going to pull this off?' It's so big," he said. "[Thanos] has this incredible power -- he has universe altering power if he gets his hands on the Stones -- so I think people are going to be surprised at the scale in the movie."
