And then there were two. Following up on reports from earlier in the weekend that indicated the search for a director to Guardians of the Galaxy was narrowed to four candidates, and focused on Slither's James Gunn, Indiewire's The Playlist reached out to representatives of the directors in question for comment--and according to their report, two of those directors are officially not involved with Guardians of the Galaxy. Granted, it's directing duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, so they would have come as a package deal--but that their representatives have reportedly nixed the idea altogether, rather than just not commenting on it, suggests they're really out, and seems to limit the field to only Gunn and comedy director Peyton Reed, the man behind Bring It On and Yes Man. Gunn, who has also directed the superhero spoof Super with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, is arguably best-prepared for working on Guardians of the Galaxy as the writer of the Zack Snyder remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Look for an answer soon; Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
