Marvel and Netflix have officially confirmed Krysten Ritter will play Jessica Jones in the upcoming series Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Jones was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos for the comic book series Alias, which follows Jones, a former superhero, after she has experienced a traumatic event at the hands of a supervillain and left that life behind. Jones starts fresh as a private investigator, but her past continues to haunt her, as she is regularly assigned to cases involved people with powers.

"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."

"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."

Ritter is best known for her roles in Breaking Bad, Don't Trust the B--- In Apartment 23, and Veronica Mars. Her name first popped up in association with A.K.A. Jessica Jones when a shortlist of actresses in the running surfaced online.

A.K.A. Jessica Jones, one of four Defenders series coming to Netflix from Marvel, will be released in 2015, sometime after Daredevil.
