Steve Ditko, the reclusive co-creator of Spider-Man who has historically had a pretty rocky relationship with Marvel Comics, will provide a variant cover for the final issue of Amazing Spider-Man, December's #700. Sort of. It's actually an unused cover from Amazing Fantasy #15, the character's first appearance, which was recently recolored and reissued. The cover is actually just the same look that was used on Amazing Fantasy, except from a different angle. The variant was actually announced back when Marvel's December solicitations came out, but until today, the art was not particularly visible. Earlier in the afternoon, Newsarama ran a better look at the image. The issue will be the final Amazing Spider-Man released before the Marvel NOW! relaunch, and according to series writer Dan Slott will be one of the most important issues in the character's history and one after which he'll have to go to ground and hide from internet backlash.
