Shailene WoodleySPOILER WARNING:

Don't read past Webb's first quote if you're concerned abut spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Director Marc Webb has revealed what his plans were for Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, before the character was cut from the film. "There was one little scene at the beginning where she is next door," Webb told Movies.com, "and it took place right around the montage where he comes back and there was another little moment between Gwen and MJ. But it just tipped over. The relationship between them [Peter and Gwen] is so sacred and so powerful, that it just didn't feel right. And it sucks because Shailene is such a f**king great actress and so cool and magical but it was just about having this obligation to this romance that I thought was sacred. It was just one of those things." For those who don't recall, Shailene Woodley, now the star of the Divergent franchise, was originally cast to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but was cut out early on in the filming process. While Divergent will likely keep Woodley out of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Webb said that fans can still expect to see Mary Jane. "Oh absolutely," said Webb. "The question, of course, is can Peter ever love again? And that will be something that we have to address." The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes to theaters May 2.
