Emma Stone, who plays Gwen Stacy in the upcoming Sony Pictures film The Amazing Spider-Man, appeared on The Tonight Show last night to chat with host Jay Leno about her work on iCarly and in the Spider-reboot. TO accompany her appearance, she brought with her an exclusive clip of the film that brings her character face-to-face with The Lizard. The film, Stone explains, focuses on the psychological fallout that Peter suffers from losing his parents at an early age, and around his trying to find out what really happened to them. Of course, the series of events that occur while trying to find the truth bring him face to face with Oscorp, Dr. Curt Connors and his scaly alter ego...but if there's one thing that Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy should know, it's that when you're a superhero, your friends and family are never very far from meeting their end at the hands of a green-skinned sociopath. One interesting thing that Stone lets slip during the interview portion is that Gwen Stacy apparently works as an Oscorp intern alongside Peter, so the fair-haired girl next door that comic book fans have known and loved for years has a smarter, tougher, edgier personality this time around--which is good, because frankly it wouldn't suit someone with Stone's established onscreen persona to play down to fan expectations for Gwen. It's frankly an odd clip, with Spider-Man standing in the street, wearing his costume, talking on the cell phone in full view of a half-dozen onlookers. He's trying to convince Gwen to get the heck out of Dodge, but Gwen is synthesizing what appears to be an antidote to change The Lizard back to his human form, and refuses to leave and risk allowing The Lizard to compromise the lab when she's so close. The clip also, perhaps not surprisingly, is the source for the still photo that recently appeared in Entertainment Weekly of The Lizard staring into a grate at Oscorp. The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, and will be in theaters on July 3.
