Avengers: The How I Met Your Mother Remix

It was likely only a matter of time before someone found a way to mash up Marvel's The Avengers with one of the numerous musical numbers from CBS's hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother. That Cobie Smulders plays the Scotch-drinking, gun-toting Robin Scherbatsky in the latter and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in the former makes it almost too tempting not to do. But just because it's predictable doesn't make the video below, which sets moments from Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers against the song "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit" by Neil Patrick Harris, any less fun. Tony Stark is, of course, cast as NPH's Barney Stinson here, extolling the virtues of his suit in song. Something tells us the suit in question wasn't originally made of vibranium, but that's a whole other thing. The preening, fame-whore depiction of Tony Stark by Robert Downey, Jr. is perfectly suited to this song and makes for some pretty entertaining sound-to-image match-ups. It's actually only a mildly amusing piece until, about a minute and a half in, they start using the other Avengers to ask questions of Tony Stark, and the real mash-up (rather than just a music video) begins. Somehow, too, using Smulders for her own pieces of music made me chuckle less than putting the lines of Joss Whedon favorite Alyson Hannigan, who appears with Smulders on How I Met Your Mother and whose husband Alexis Denisof actually played Thanos's mysterious #2 in The Avengers, into Black Widow's mouth. Suddenly the silly red dye job makes so much more sense on Scarlett Johansson...!
