Deadpool Movie Trailer #2 Easter Eggs Revealed
The second trailer for Deadpool dropped on Christmas, and a merry holiday was had by all.
But for some -- like you X-Men fans in the audience -- it was merrier than others. There were a handful of familiar faces and we got to see some of them doing cool stuff. So it seemed like it was as good a time as any to run down some of the Easter eggs, Marvel Comics references, winks and nods in the trailer.
Now, just to be clear: I'm no X-Men x-pert. That would be Jamie Lovett, who is spending his holiday weekend at home rather than here. So I'm doing my best, but if you see something I don't, then by all means chime in below. That's what the comments are for and I'll try to update the story with any meaningful suggestions.
I'll also glance over everything but give real explanations to only a few items. After all, most of this stuff was already known from the first trailer and previous interviews...!
Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

THE SUPPORTING CAST
Okay, so a quick rundown of faces we see in this trailer, but had already seen beforehand:
Colossus - A longtime member of the X-Men and various other mutant superteams in the comics, Colossus has had a fairly minor onscreen role in the feature film adaptations, but becuase he's visually cool he's there fairly often.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead - Created by Grant Morrison during his run on New X-Men, Ellie Phimister derives her superhero name from a Monster Magnet song and
Weasel - A former classmate of Spider-Man's, a time-traveling Deadpool kinapped him, got him drunk, ruined his life and recruited him into being basically Deadpool's version of The Punisher's pal Microchip.
Blind Al - Is she Deadpool's prisoner? His roommate? Just somebody with whom he could live out his Who's the Boss? fantasies? It's hard to tell. In the comics, she started as a hostage, but the two developed a meaningful relationship, and she didn't leave Deadpool's hideout when she was given her freedom.
Vanessa Carlysle - Here, she's Deadpool's best gal. In X2: X-Men United, Vanessa Carlysle's name appeared on a list of mutants Mystique scrolled through on Stryker's computer while looking for Magneto's file. In the comics? She's Copycat, a young, mutant shapeshifter who was a frequent problem for the X-Force and Deadpool over the years.
Angel Dust - Co-created by DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, Angel Dust ran away and joined the Morlocks as a child when she developed powers. She has the ability to control her adrenaline at will, essentially giving herself super-strength and occasionally a berserker rage like Wolverine's.

Yeah, Deadpool knows he's in a superhero movie.
Don't expect that to be a big part of the plot; it would get pretty distracting pretty fast. But the fact that he can break the fourth wall a bit and make such observations works really well for the ad campaign, giving both the verisimilitude comic fans want and a clever way to differentiate itself from other superhero films.
And, yeah, it's automatically unlike most other superhero films, but it isn't like we haven't seen Kick-Ass and Super. Deadpool wants that kind of irreverence without having to sacrifice the broader appeal of being an X-Men movie, so getting the tone right is important.

At one point in the trailer, we see what appears to be Marrow working in the lab where they give Wade his powers.
We talked a little about her here.
Marrow essentially has the mutant power of excessive bone growth, and she then breaks off those extra bones and uses them to throw at or stab people. She has run with Gene Nation, the X-Men, and the Morlocks (an underground mutant community populated mostly by mutants with unsightly looks or powers) at times. With Caliban confirmed for X-Men: Apocalypse, that makes two former Morlocks in Fox X-Men films this winter/spring. She's also had a few run-ins with Weapon X, giving her the direct connection here to Deadpool.
Perhaps more importantly, though, Marrow most recently worked as a member of X-Force, a team Deadpool has also been an on-and-off member of over the years. That team, a more proactive strike force, was one of the earlier expansions of the X-Men franchise that Fox was pursuing, though it was put on the backburner in favor of more X-Men proper team films and solo films re-introducing characters like Deadpool and Gambit.

That bathtub-looking thing that they force Wade, face-down, into? That looks familiar, right? That's becuase they've used very similar visuals in the Wolverine origin sequences and the Weapon X labs in previous X-Men movies.

While the first trailer for Deadpool didn't see him using the head of one of the gang members from the car chase scene as a weapon, we did see something like that in the initial animation reel that leaked onlien and made the movie a reality.
So when Deadpool decapitates someone and then kicks the falling head into his friend? Well, that's a fun little moment of deja vu.

Not only are they Deadpool's favorite food, but they're kind of funny to say out loud, so they've become one of those things that's a frequent part of Deadpool's marketing campaign.
