Guardians of the Galaxy is already a movie known for quirky cosmic characters, but the next installment may introduce the quirkiest, most cosmic character yet.

A new report suggests one of Marvel Comics' strangest villains will appear in the film's sequel. This rumor has not been confirmed, but could still spoil the film, so keep that in mind.

Possible SPOILERS follow.

According to Geek.com, none other than Ego the Living planet will be debuting on screen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The site claims to have received the information from sources close the the film's production.

So how does a planet become a living supervillain? In the comics, it is thanks to the whims of the cosmic being called The Stranger, who took an average, non-sentient planet and turned it into a living planet. Ego's existential search for identity and purpose led him down the path of a galactic conqueror, but Thor put an end to his campaign. Since then, Ego (who is one of the characters we most want to see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) has bounced back and forth between eras of reformation, when he is an ally to the God of Thunder, and bouts of madness that lead to destructive conflict.

Ego

As a cosmic entity of note, Ego has ties to other characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, including Thanos and The Collector, but given his long history as a Thor antagonist, could he be used to connect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to Thor: Ragnarok?

Check out when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's Movie Release Schedule.
