Independence Day 2 Script To Be Rewritten By Carter Blanchard

The script for Independence Day 2 will be rewritten by Carter Blanchard, according to Variety. Blanchard's previous writing credits include Spyhunter. He is also currently working on the script for Mark Millar's Kindergarten Heroes. The first draft of the script for Independence Day 2 was written by James Vanderbilt. Roland Emmerich will direct the film, as well as co-produce with Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser. Little is known about the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster other than that its star, Will Smith, will not be returning. The project has stalled while 20th Century Fox tries to find a way to move it forward without its most central character. Blanchard has likely been hired to figure out a way to do just that. Actors Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are said to be returning reprising their roles for Independence Day 2. Independence Day 2 has had its release date moved several times already, but Fox was most recently eyeing a July 1, 2016 release.
