Rumors have been circulating about Nathan Fillion's cameo role in Guardians of the Galaxy, beginning with the idea that he would be showing up as Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova. Director James Gunn shot down that rumor, but did confirm that Fillion had a "small, fun" cameo in the film.

Schmoes Know is now reporting that they have confirmed Fillion's cameo in Gaurdians of the Galaxy and what character he will be playing. It turns out that

Fillion won't be showing up on screen, but that he loaned his voice to Cosmo, the canine security chief of Knowhere.

Cosmo is a character created during Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's run on Guardians of the Galaxy. Cosmo is an Earth dog who was sent into space as part of the Soviet Space Program in the 1960s. He landed on Knowhere and somehow mutated to gain heightened intelligence and the abilities of telepathy and telekinesis.

Cosmo is a fan favorite character for those who read the Abnett and Lanning run of Guardians of the Galaxy. We know that Star-Lord's crew will be stopping on Knowhere at some point during the film, so it makes sense that Cosmo would show up. It definitely fits the description of a "small, fun" cameo as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1.
