Paramount and Platinum Dunes' new Friday the 13th movie has added a screenwriter, but lost its director.

According to The Wrap, V/H/S director David Bruckner is no longer attached to direct the next Friday the 13th movie. They report: "While they'd love to have Bruckner direct the next installment in the horror franchise and plan to go back to him when they have a new script, he is not officially involved with the project at this time."

While Variety reports that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski has been hired to pen the script for the thirteenth film in the Friday the 13th series. He'll take over for Nick Antosca (NBC's Hannibal), who was hired in March to work on the script.

This may have changed, but the last report on the plot said that it would "answer the decades-old question of why slasher Jason Voorhees can't be killed."

The next Friday the 13th movie is scheduled for release on Jan. 13, 2017.
