In a shocking turn of events, another actress would like to star in Marvel Studios' first film featuring a female lead. Actress Olivia Wilde may not be actively campaigning herself, but when fans did it for her, and asked if she'd be interested in the role of Captain Marvel, she replied emphatically on twitter, "Oh hell yea. Let's DO this. I'm starting my Marvel diet immediately. Eggshells and jet fuel only, right?" She also joked about her general indie movie sensibility - not counting Tron Legacy, one figures, saying, "Who says indie kids can't go pro?"

Cinema Blend followed up, and got a bit more out of Wilde on the subject.

"I'm a big fan of superhero films," she said, "and I have so much respect for the Marvel Cinematic Universe." She did have some criticisms, though, and said she'd like to see a bit more "nuance" and "complexity" in female superheroes. "The thing with female superheroes is that, in order to be powerful, they are flawless," she explained. "I think the way these Marvel heroes are written, the female superheroes included, do have complexity and flaws. But I think when they are translated into film, the women can become these ultimate goddesses of perfection, and I would love to create a female Marvel character who is just as unexpected and complex as some of the male characters, as Iron man. I think that would be really cool!"

So that's Wilde throwing her hat into the mix, after all. Who do you think should play Captain Marvel? Sound off in the comments!
